The New Job Market
From a purely anecdotal perspective, I have to say, I’ve noticed that in the continuous tightening of the job market, from both the nature of competition and the rise of A.I, there has been a simultaneous rise in the gig economy. Again, I say this purely from my personal experience, but I have seen an increasing amount of people take on gig work, whether on a supplementary basis or as in a full-time capacity.
From rideshare drivers to delivery workers to freelancing, there appears to have been a shift towards the acceptance of gig work as a real full-time alternative to the 9-5. Obviously, there are still many industries and professions that, as of this moment, are still excluded from the “gig economy”, but I do wonder if this is the way forward. On one hand, the interconnectedness of society created by social media and the Internet as a whole would suggest a natural move towards the direction we see today. Alternatively, I do wonder about the implications of the growing gig economy on the broader job market.
Thanks for listening to my two cents!
Signing off,
